I think there are 2 schools of thought here....

"Music on Nostr" is in the eye of the beholder.

Folks come here, log into a Nostr app, and see "music on Nostr" because they're on Damus, Primal, Coracle, or Ditto, etc... They see someone sharing music in some way, a musician posts a video (like nostr:nprofile1qyxhwumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmvqyg8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnvv9hxgqpq6te06rz4hry4m5e4wsvxcxan3lm0u03mshscyv9umsjzvfeglhrqykphgy or nostr:nprofile1qyvhwumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytn2v9hkummrw36hxtnyv4mqzrmhwden5te0dehhxarj9ekk7mgqyzmyxfcp0wcws0pv6sdv9czun4pcycez534xc7kqpwv6aavukrlhxslm94z) or they see a musician doing a vlog like nostr:nprofile1qyv8wumn8ghj76mj9ec82unsd3jhyetvv9ujucm0d5q3yamnwvaz7tmsw4e8qmr9wpskwtn9wvqzqec8cw0xc5l0j3w9mu5677rx0hy5rmvqp9yef0fxflvqdfhq5v3scewvge does.

Then there are the folks who will fuss and fight and argue that there's "Not music on Nostr" because they get into technical weeds. They browbeat folks about technical specs and wording and don't make too many frens 🤷‍♀️

So for a "music platform on Nostr" I'm not sure we have a 💯 "ready for primetime" app just yet that is wholly, completely NOSTR.

We've got apps that incorporate Nostr like nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgqgdwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkcqpqyfg0d955c2jrj2080ew7pa4xrtj7x7s7umt28wh0zurwmxgpyj9sldm58v and nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgqtxwaehxw309anxjmr5v4ezumn0wd68ytnhd9hx2tmwwp6kyvtkx46kv7tgx3kxketnd3nhs7rrvdkxwwrxxp585ct6dpshwdmjwdexsanxw96hs7ndxfnxkd35vvmny6rswv6r2m3swc6n7cnjdaskgcmpwd6r6arjw4jsqgr98zf9a0akv86p3kx86p6tachg4lthsuqamzg8psk6jdk4w8j4cv6qcgkr

We've got folks building new apps, thanks to vibe coding accelerating the process, like nostr:nprofile1qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uq37amnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3dwfjkccte9ejx2un9ddex7umn9ekk2tcqyqlhwrt96wnkf2w9edgr4cfruchvwkv26q6asdhz4qg08pm6w3djg3c8m4j, nostr:nprofile1qyxhwumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmvqy8hwumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnddaksqgqmcu9qzj9n7vtd5vl78jyly037wxkyl7vcqflvwy4eqhxjfa4yzyr2p7gd, and nostr:nprofile1qyghwumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnhd9hx2tcpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduqzqr6k8l3vlhccpjcsgkrtjkrnx7dqc87ul0psr2qvsf2lx0g47qua5phy3d -- and I count nostr:nprofile1qyt8wumn8ghj7enjv4jhxur9v43kstnrv9ekztcpzdmhxue69uhkummnw3ezu7nzvshxwee0qqsqu7utj8u49g7fjn6362nf7zmzcauftz4ds40pplhcsyau8qhdsgqafyvrg in this for her site where she can post & host music. That's rad.

If you want to get technical, nostr:nprofile1qyxhwumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmvqyg8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnvv9hxgqpqfnn2h0tgm2mwnl0kar5ez25wztum2w0q0rrrf326n0ljn999znws3rtu6s did technically just build a music/game app *on Nostr* called Relay Rider:

https://relayrider.shakespeare.wtf/

It's a place where you can simply post a video of you playing, singing, etc and receive zaps in return.

Musicians can also use Nostr like any other social media app as a backup for if/when they get deplatformed off legacy socials. Grow an audience concurrently here, plan for the future.

It's a place where folks are openly building music players using RSS and Nostr.

This is also a place where artists can mingle and work on this grassroots revolution we've got going. The more the merrier. I'll die on this hill--it should be artist led! This is a network. Grow it.

I don't think we have 'the cure' yet in order to hard sell Nostr to artists. But there's interest in this.

There's a pretty big movement about "ditching Spotify" on Bluesky. I keep seeing more and more how folks are taking part in this and ditching that trash for other apps... they are still in the stage of trying things like Apple Music and Tidal because "at least it's not Spotify."

They will get here eventually...

Nostr.blue has a section dedicated to music that then plays on a persistent music player while you enjoy the rest of nostr. As you listen to tracks it will then publish nostr status updates around the tracks you're listening to similar to Spotify.

It supports two kinds of music sources. Our original is nostr:nprofile1qqszy58kj62v9fpe98nhuh0q76np4e0r0g0wd44rhth3wphdnyqjfzcpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszxrhwden5te0wfjkccte9emkzanvv94k2tnrdakj7qgewaehxw309aex2mrp0yh8xmn0wf6zuum0vd5kzmp0tdvfl7 Music that shares their music catalog from their Podcasting 2.0 RSS service. You can then listen to artists and send them tips via Wavlake from the player.

I also just rolled in support for nostr native music that nostr:nprofile1qqsph3c2q9yt8uckmgelu0yf7glruudvfluesqn7cuftjpwdynm2gygpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszrnhwden5te009skyafwd4jj7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcafljxq created for NodeCast to nostr.blue. It looks for tracks published as kind36787 nostr events and playlists as kind34139 for artists that want to directly host and publish their own music. Tracks published to nostr are then hosted elsewhere like a blossom server. https://nostrhub.io/naddr1qvzqqqrcvypzqx78pgq53vlnzmdr8l3u38eru0n3438lnxqz0mr39wg9e5j0dfq3qyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnswf5k6ctv9ehx2aqqp3kh2umfvvkhgunpvd4hx3g2vgy

I think the kind36787 is a great solution for building around 100% nostr native service. It empowers artists to have complete control around their music's distribution. This allows artists to bring their music directly to fans without any intermediary or outside influence. I think it can power some really cool services that could open wide new artist monetization by keeping the artist 100% in control of their distribution.

I love V4V but I'm also not against other monetization strategies. I could see a really cool strategy where tracks are hosted on a software stack similar to what podcast hosts use for dynamic ad insertions around their music playback.

You could still prioritize V4V by using your npub as an auth token to show if you've zapped the artist/track. If you have then the software plays the track for you immediately. If you haven't then it routes in a dynamic ad before the track plays that the artist could monetize from.

Once the artist controls the distribution the fun can really begin!

That’s a really interesting idea!
