#Telegram has just updated (obviously under the pressure) their ToS and TG haters all over my feeds are loosing their shit about announced sharing users IP/phone number in response to "valid legal requests". While what exactly makes a request legal remains to be seen, some thoughts come to mind:

1) don't other messengers such as WhatsApp, Skype, Viber, Facebook, Gmail, iMessage, Threema, etc. provide the same information to authorities on request? If they don't what makes TG target of government attack, if the do what the fuzz is about?

2) according to haters telegram has been leaking information to Russia/Ukraine/Israel/USA/Saudi/China for years. If it's true, what the fuzz is about?

3) why do haters care so much about TG at all? Why not download Signal, SimpleX, or some other secure messenger and use it instead. Or maybe it's just a virtue signalling? Or maybe, just maybe most the fuzz actually comes form bots payed by competitors and not from concerned, security focused TG users?

Thanks for sharing the information. Don't you find it strange that Telegram is being attacked while Threema is not? What could be reason? Is it about popularity?

Telegram works more like a social network. With groups up to 200.000 Users and Channels with an endless number of users!

Threema is a messenger only. And groups are limited to a maximum of 256 users!

> And groups are limited to a maximum of 256 users!

While a group of 256 user is not that big, it would work pretty well for distributing CP or drugs.

> Telegram works more like a social network.

Agree. And not just a social network, but a very popular one. Which brings us back to the real reason behind attacks on TG and it's not the interest of marginalized groups in forbidden stuff as French gov says. It's indeed a political case and the real reason is mass surveillance and thought control.

It's very sad that they got Durov.
