Politicians love to regulate things they don't understand. Because they don't understand things, their solutions are always harmful and have harmful side effects that they didn't foresee.
Most politicians are politicians are politicians because they want power but can't earn it through merit. They are the people that have high self esteem, thinking they are smarter than everyone else, but they only think this because they are too stupid to understand their deficiencies.
A scientific study looked at self esteem. Those with the least understanding overestimated their knowledge on subjects because they knew too little to understand what they don't know. Those who most would deem experts underestimated their knowledge because they actually knew enough to understand what they don't know. I think this applies doubly to politicians.
