In a world in which many Nostr: clients are waiting to be tried and each of them may modify your metadata events in an unpredictable way, having a safe base with data stored locally like https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip gives me a lot of peace of mind.

I think this happened to me. I signed up to one of the clients, and it somehow changed my LN address to something I was using previously.
I'm glad I could provide that. Having this local copy that is only synchronized when you tell it to has saved a number of people from clients that eagerly presume that they have the latest data (and don't) and then overwrite.
I tried the gossip client today. Didn't like it. But, I'm no computer expert.
Is it true ?
What about other users? They should not even worry about that
