I'm on Gentoo, and plain mpv complains about yt-dl being out of date, because package maintainers can't be bothered to update it.

oof. didn’t realize mpv uses that under the hood but makes sense. Works alright on nixos.

iirc I had mpv working under OpenBSD too, but don't normally use that machine for entertainment purposes.
