I think it's funny that they try to suggest the writer of Alice in wonderland suffered from this lol.
Nothing about this syndrome makes you hallucinate giant caterpillars smoking opium.
I'm pretty sure the guy wrote it based on his experience with drugs.

Very interesting though, a lot of these symptoms are similar to what happens when you take a large LSD or psilocybin dose.
I think the main reason doctors aren't taking it seriously is probably because it's being called Alice in wonderland syndrome.
That name makes it sound like it's enjoyable or not serious.
It should be called something like
"Waking nightmare syndrome that distorts your sense of size and distance" then doctors would take it more seriously.
I can just imagine the doctor laughing at me and saying "eat less mushrooms" if I told them I had Alice in wonderland syndrome
