I did not gather it from samourai scandal, I already knew it.

The samourai scandal and resulting panic simply confirmed it.

according to bitnodes.io there are about 16000 bitcoin nodes on the network.

I guess we cant really say how many bitcoin users there are but I am quite sure its WAY more than that.
