The only difference between communities and hashtags is moderation. Perhaps communities aren't popular because a censorship resistant platform doesn't vibe with moderation.

Still there are many who want posts curated for them by an expert mod. So ironically censorship is in demand even here 😀

it should find its place here eventually

I don't like the mods getting high on the ability to remove. I want this to be a big permissionless cage fight.

me too

Communities aren't implemented on all clients and even when they are they tend not to have all the functions. I believe the only way to approve a community post is by using Nostrudel. Annoyingly even the creator of the community has to approve their own posts lol. People can't be arsed with that.

I do t think moderation is censorship tho, (except in a very broad definition). Having only on-topic posts on a topic-based community. Is that censorship? I wouldn't say so. 🤔

It's censorship but it's desired. Historically desired censorship was more prevalent than the totalitarian type. Do you wanna make a distinction between those?

To someone being censored it matters little.

It's censorship, purely by literal broad definition. It's mostly more like a pedantic application of the term in a way.

I think when people are talking about censorship /censorship-resisyance they're pointing at grander things? Not like, my 400th post about salmon got deleted from the jazz message board.

Good point. In practice it's very different. Plus, you don't have to be in a community. I don't mind people moderating my Hitler AI covers. I expect that to happen.

A bit off topic, inspired by your publishing revelations. How about software that converts Nostr posts to a podcast?

Not sure there's an audience for that lol? But I say do it anyway lol.

There will be cause it's novel. The problem is that GPUs are expensive. Luckily Nostr has an incentive layer (kinda)

Like that new air chat app?

Would you do text-to-speech from the global feed? There's so much RSS feeds stuff there, super long form content. Would you moderate?

I mean it could be interesting as a project.

A good start is to convert existing long form RSS text to audio. Later on include comments / replies. This way the reader / listener is engaged. It's more addictive this way, so people will be more likely to zap or donate with other coins. Decentralized patreon.

I was thinking of it more as an art project tbh. I'm not sure it would be interesting/engaging outside of that context lol.

A huge percentage of it would just be bitcoin slogans. Fuck the fed, fiat is poopoo, pura vida, stack sats, not your keys.

Audio takes a lot longer than skim reading past this.

But I think it works as a weird audio art thing lol

Do you know about the onionland radio show?

I know virtually nothing about the onion knights

Pirate show. Suppoeted by ads.

I had a brief dip into it. Not really my thing, but podcasts tend not to be. But does seem like a fun project🤔

I don't like it much, but it proves it's viable. Especially if it's made better. Not as many toilet jokes.

I don't think a simple copy of Twitter or Substack is enough to get people to learn this platform
