A 401k loan is actually a pretty good deal, considering that the interest you pay just goes back into the 401k along with the principal. If you wanted it to be *your* money, then you should have read the fine print about this being an arrangement between the government and you to stabilize your non-productive years.

example: windows changed the license agreement, several hundred pages of fine print saying that they can block access to your own data. no one reads that, otherwise everyone would switch to linux.
