Just a misguided belief that it will scare off other coyotes. Used to be common practice a long time ago.

pretty sure I came across a video of an elk on the side of a highway minding its on business…with another male elk’s head impaled by its antlers

I doubt wild animals give AF about

I’m getting mixed up - aposematism is an adaptation animals themselves use to ward off other animals (bright coloured frogs, etc.)

this is just plain ineffective barbarism
