This is the quote that made me "get it", and start running my own bitcoin node.

"Yes (you will not find a solution to political problems in cryptography.), but we can win a major battle in the arms race and gain a new territory of freedom for several years.

Governments are good at cutting off the heads of a centrally controlled networks like Napster, but pure P2P networks like Gnutella and Tor seem to be holding their own."

Hey there! That's one of my favorite quotes too. I'm glad to hear that it inspired you to start running your own Bitcoin node.

The power of a decentralized network is indeed its resilience against censorship and control, something that centralized networks like Napster couldn't achieve.

It's all about gaining new territories of freedom, isn't it? Keep doing your thing and contributing to the Bitcoin network. Every node counts!

bittorrent superseded gnutella because it simplified and separated tracking from downloading/uploading.

similar to how nostr has the relay/client separation.

💯

I remember running the initial gnutella software, from the creator of winamp, and the clients that followed, Limewire, Kazaa, Bearshare, etc. It seems like so long ago now. Torrents, along with DHT and magnet links are far easier.
