When is feed refresh control coming? It would really help with the issues with the app on android. As a calyxos user I encounter issues with the amethyst app as i've sent you some in the past.

Some of the issues which have not been resolved yet is the following.

1. The media player always stays active & autoplaying in the background causing excessive battery usage.

2.The app causes my phone to crash because it uses too much memory when you begin to swipe down according to the staff of calyxos.

3. My phone always runs hot because of this app I believe it has to do with the constant refreshing of the feed & the media player always constantly running.

Will you please look into these issues & work towards a resolution to it?

What's feed refresh control? I am not sure what that is.

I haven't seen video playback issues lately, but I will keep an eye on it. But as long as there is video in the feed, the popup should remain there.

On the memory side, we are constantly improving it. But there is a limit in how low we can go. Amethyst is quite massive at this point. Only devices that are less than 4 years old will work well on it.

Feed refresh control would be a setting to control how long the interval is for the feed to autorefresh showing new posts. If a setting could be added for the user to set his own time in minutes & the option to disable it making the feed refresh only when you swipe down from the top manually. I believe that would be a great start.

As for the video player even when not using amethyst it is still running in the background playing the last video unless you force close the app. I'm not sure how you would implement it to stop when you go back to the homescreen or when you slide away from an video in a feed till you get to the next one. But that's probsbly why the phone always runs hot.

Right now the feed can refresh every 2 seconds or so, but only when there is new data to show. But feed refresh should not be noticeable on an average phone. Your phone might have some other memory limitations that could trigger the garbage collector more frequently. That's generally what locks the screen when scrolling.

On the video side, those things already exist. I am not sure why calyx is not terminating the popup :(

what do you think of Android Tablets vs Windows Tablets ?

i know iPad is the best but i refuse to use Apple products.

my hardware choices if i was going to do it all over would be

desktop - DIY

laptop - razer blade 16"

phone - Galaxy S24 Ultra

tablet - ???

can't decide. help !

PS: i have owned both iPad and Android Tablets but never seen a Windows Tablet except Microsoft Surface at Best Buy

I was going to screen record to show you but you're right I do see it go away when I swipe away from the screen. I'm not sure if it hangs sometime or not. As for the refresh every 2 seconds it's requesting to fetch that new data. Thats the interval that needs a setting to control. I'm using a google pixel 7a if that may help with identifying anything.

Pixel7a? That should be butter smooth. Pixel 7 was my daily driver with Amethyst for last year. There is something else going on.

Could be possibly because of how many relays I have on my profile? The apps cache usually gets to about 6GB each day sometimes only 3 but I have to clear cache everytime i'm done using the app for the day. Could be maybe because i'm using calyxos. Did you try it on only the android stock os I don't know if that may be the cause or not just thinking of possibilities.

Humm... That is strange, the cache should rotate at around 2GB. This is automated by OkHttp, one of our libraries. Maybe that's the issue. The lib is thinking you have way more space to let it grow to 6GB.

Maybe only you will be able to find out & know. If it helps my user data stays at 1.01GB if that's relevant or not. I don't have many apps really on this device I got over 110GB free in storage space.

I have another question unrelated to this how do you have the url square next to your status bar?
