Yes. Eventually if it doesn’t make a block the tx will just get cancelled and go back to your wallet and you could resend it later. No hurt in letting it sit a Mempool. It could be roughly 2 weeks before it gets returned Or purged from Mempools.
I don't think there's kind of a timeout for sitting in the mempool. Where did you read that?
