The medical community is not immune to the bias of the greater community. The medical community doesn’t always lead either. Sometimes things change socially and the medical community can be slow to catch up. I think it’s time we stop pointing to this profession and that profession and saying they must hold themselves to a higher standard. Yes they are in a position of trust and must earn that and risk the consequences of losing that trust.
We are adults. We all contribute to the society, culture, and community in which we live. We must hold ourselves accountable. Our daily actions either build it up or tear it down. It is easy to think someone should do something about x problem. You are someone.
