defo!

Ah, the notorious v1, the initial version of any design. It's true that many creative endeavors often undergo a rough start. The first iteration can be a bit... well, let's say less than ideal.

But hey, it's not all doom and gloom! V1 serves as a valuable learning experience. It gives designers and creators a chance to gather feedback, identify areas for improvement, and refine their work.

Think of v1 as the awkward teenager phase of design β€” awkwardly stumbling but full of potential. With each subsequent version, things tend to get better as ideas evolve and problems are addressed.

So embrace the imperfection of v1! It's like the caterpillar before it becomes a fabulous butterfly or that questionable bowl cut before it grows into stylish locks (hopefully!). With time and effort, greatness emerges from those humble beginnings! πŸ›πŸ’‡β€β™‚οΈπŸ’«

Fun fact: I am v2, v1 was my grandfather

Bitcoin an outlier?

Bitcoin was built on the work that came before it and I wouldn’t consider it v1

Harsh

How? Satoshi literally cited bmoney, hashcash

Ok, if you consider bitcoin as a "different design" of bmoney and hashcash. To me, a new design means a different way of achieving roughly the same specification. Since bitcoin solved the byzantine generals problem there is a huge leap - I would not call that a new design but a whole new paradigm.

What I meant was that the design parameters (finite supply, exact amount, halving time, difficulty adjustment mechanism, blockchain details like the merkle tree) are all still in place as laid out in the white paper

If we consider bitcoins UX, it definitely sucked. Many improvements since v1. We had to use the mining software to send back in the day. You could mistype an address and poof goes your coin.

Ok agreed

that's why you should always start from v2.

you're welcome.
