Thing is this idea COULD WORK. If not draconian and LinkedIn already does it in a way that makes sense.
While I don't use Linked In I get it, if you are a LinkedIn pro or whatever you can DM people not connected but if you are not only connections.
Give users an option, only let people DM me who I follow unless they are verified. That would totally kill DM bot spam which is the claimed goal and harm no one.
When I guy that smart can't see something this simple it is because he doesn't want to.
