Absolutely. This is the exact reason I don't have Instagram installed on my device, even though I'm running Graphene OS. Just like you, I only use Instagram to DM some friends and family, so I use Beeper as an alternative to keeping Meta spyware on my phone.
I despise meta. Like dude you can’t even look at their VR headsets without logging into a meta account 😭
