Good morning #Nostr.

I slept... not so good. Many thoughts on my mind for a change and I feel a little under the weather - both metaphoricaly and literaly. It's raining and I realized someone knocked my sun umbrella across the terrace, and its now very, very wet. x.x And, I couldn't stop pondering the question of the symbiosis between between Nostr and Bitcoin.

On the one hand, zaps are amazing and fun.

On the other, Lightning feels like an invite-only or pay-to-participate system.

Then there is also the experience of trying to onboard new users, but as soon as they hear about bitcoin, they take dozens of steps back.

So I keep wondering what the best solution is. Not everyone wants to be orange pilled or even have anything to do with "crypto bros" and stuff - while also needing a new social media platform due to the deaths of many other.

Hm... This'll be stuck on my mind for a while, that's for sure. I want to help grow Nostr, but I also don't want to see it tainted due to the perception of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. Very difficult this one.

For instance, heynostr.com "advertises" zaps front and center to the point where even I felt a little put off. It was too much. Nostr does have a strong argument for zaps, but I feel like it shouldn't be the center. Rather, it's decentralized nature, freedom of speech, ability to pick and choose relays and others should be at the forefront. Zaps can come immediately after that. But, this wouldn't do all the work that has gone into it justice either!

Bah. x.x Quite a conundrum...

Yes, I think for normies, decentralised social media without algorithms and advertising is the sell, if they want to participate in the lightning aspect then that's nice, but I also don't think we should be too happy recommending custodial wallets.

I don't know, maybe it's OK for on boarding, and then pivot to non custodial wallets after.

I think the zaps mostly appeal to content creators more so than every day social media users. The concept of value for value hasn't popped up on their curated timelines yet.... funny that...

I have spent this whole day so far thinking of this more.

What if there was a client, that did not show zap buttons or anything while the person themself don't have an LNAddress configured and it would only be one short screen in the introduction with a note saying that more info can be found in the settings? It'd need to be carefuly worded though.

As for creators: Zaps on zap.stream are so much better than Twitch Bits and youtube highlights or superchats or whatever. They are phenominal and in this space, it really feels like a "community made alternative". Twitch Bits are feed by Twitch, whilst Zaps are feed by the Lightning network and it's workings. But in the end, both of them result in the creator reacting and being given value. This is where I think Zaps can shine the absolute most, because it feels natural to many this way.

But other places on Nostr, I haven't really made my mind yet... But there must be one, I am sure of it. ^^ A way to have coiners have their coin shenanigans, but also normies having their freedom, both co-existing. But, how... hm...
