Today I am ashamed to say I have been fooled. As you all know I am a fan of Simplex Chat today I discovered the dictatorship of a tyrant developer. So you may or may not know they have group chats for feedback about the app, suggestions, & criticisms. I suggested read receipts because most chat apps have it & they don't so why not whats the harm?

We all have common sense it lets the other person know you read their message. So after it was suggested 2 other people were for the idea & the 2 main developers were not. Their argument was the feature creates stress, causes you to stay on longer, & puts you in danger because another person can get mad ar you for having it off when they want it on. We debated back & forth I asked if there was any security breach, correlation used to track this message can be tied to profile or tracked by a read receipts all no so theres no technical security issues with it.

Another person wrote survey it & I agreed that survey would be best because 5 pf us is not enough to settle this even though it's 3 for & 2 against. Instead I get this tyrant answer of the biggest voice doesn't mean it's more impprtant to have or a major concern, reference to how "we're a beer company & we ignore all those who prefer wine." Excuse me the whole purpose of this group is to give feedback, suggestions, & criticism.

We're not doing it lets not discuss this for 12 months. Then he brings it up again the next day the developer. I respond to it again give my input then he wants to be like any conversation regarding read reciepts is considered offtopic moderators please moderate all chat relating to this in the future. Like a fucking hitler just because he don't personally like it even though he was out numbered in the vote. You got 3 users telling you they like the read reciepts, they don't mind & are cool because it's no security issue.

But fuck that ignore everyone because it's my world & you will all like what I give & that's that. So I love simplex as a software but the main dev is going to bring it's downfall because he's not willing to look beyond his whole personal quirks to serve the people what they want. Did you ever hear of anyone getting jump or killed because they didn't enable read reciept on their chat like yo who the fuck is killing people over that?

Shits retarded I love the software but the politics is going to ruin it like most open source projects that start off good make promises they can't keep then give some heres the reality bullshit speech.

In the future updates public group won't be as protecting as they are now just a fair warning for when "chat relays" come out for public groups replacing the way public groups work now.

It pisses me off that developers don't consider what feedback they are getting & just be like my final word is & answer back again & i'll ban you. 9/10 i'm getting blocked by admin in chat so nobody will read my messages or just getting put on observer so I can't chat at all. I understand when something is totally off but this isn't one of those totally off suggestions.

The personal argument given by the other developer not the lead one was I have a friend whos boyfriend forces her to have read reciepts on in whatsapp because he thinks shes cheating on him. Like yo that's personal problems not feature issues. Well the only people working on this app are these 2 paranoid fucks & what there paranoia thinks goes.

Then he also says he is personally stressed by them because if he sees someone read it he sits & assumes they are going to respond immediately. Like wtf?

I’m not exactly sure what read receipts are, but I get one check mark when I’ve sent something and two checks when the messsge is read.

If you’re not happy with the developers you can focus your energy on White Noise, maybe it’ll eventually become a better messaging app.

That's what read reciepts are except your incorrect. In simplex the 2 checks is not for read if you read the docs you will see it indicates the message was received that the smp was able to successfully send it to the other. However that does not mean they read your message.

This was discussed as well because in other apps 2 does mean the message was read but not to evgeny it don't & that's what mattered because hes the facr & leading developer who made it.

Oh, good to know.

That is a bit confusing/misleading. I hope the team at white noise are successful, I like to have an alternative to Signal which doesn’t need a phone number.

I use as an alternative https://arcanechat.me you can use webxdc apps in groups & we can play games together or collab in a markdown editor some cool stuff to check out & easily self hostable server if you want to operate one.

No i'm not a coder & even if I was I wouldn't take on an entire project by myself over read reciepts. The whole fork it ideas a scam anyways. You fork it & invent it then they just take your effort & p`tch it into theres. Fucked up ain't it?

man kudos to you for your tenacity — that must be tough! tbf, I have seen so many of this kind of behaviour around esp in the tech. some do enjoy power play at the cost of innovation.

tldr: we need suggestion to save face but we do it our way! 🤣🤦

What bothers me about it was last year when something was suggested that had a 60/40 he sent a gomonkey survey to everyone through his support line for everyone to give feedback & that feature suggestion was thrown into the survey. He can do it again to get a better consensus on the subject but because he personally thinks it's cocerion he just adamantly refuses.

I am looking for simplex replacement unless the feature has veen improved.

I moved my contacts there and only to experience challenges:

1. battery taxing

2. Could not receive call unless the app is always on which causes 1.

My experience is clunky and since then I am back to using Signal. Whilst it has its flaws, it does not stop me contacting people nor receiving calls.

I am keeping an eye of the new or improve features. I do love the group chat and no-kyc of the simplex. we can watch the space 👌

When notifications are set to always on instead of while app is active yes it is draining. & if notifications aren't always on then yes you won't receive calls while the app isn't active. Chat relays should be coming out in december or january to improve that part. I can contact whoever but do they have the app open or notifications always on?

In the mean time if I really wana video chat I use a jitsi instance.

my contacts struggle with that. I had to do a crash crouse with them but opted to deactivate it due to battery usage.

never heard of jitsi. what is it?

I also heard of matrix but have't look it up either.
