Made a post for the normies on Twitter about Zaps on nostr. Reposting here👇

At first I thought zaps on nostr are just a little gimmick like most Bitcoin Lightning tipping. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Zaps are going to accelerate nostr and Lightning adoption at the same time. 🧵⚡️

Lightning tipping on nostr:

Nostr users can add a Lightning address to their profile "natively". Nost clients display a tipping button below each post. If you like a post, you can send Bitcoin directly to the author.

Takes a couple clicks, feels like sending a "like".

What are zaps?

Zaps are a way for a Lightning node to signal back to all other nostr users that a tip was paid for a note. It is based on LNURL and works with Lightning addresses out of the box. It's easy to implement, took me couple hours.

https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/57.md

This means that everyone can see how much has been tipped by users for a note! This is the crucial part!

This is what will increase the FOMO by 1000x.

Everyone can see how much Bitcoin a good post can make. Why join nostr? You'll get paid for it! Why use Lightning? For nostr!

Got FOMO yet?

There are only a couple Lightning address providers out there that support this for now but already I'm seeing insane activity. #[0], #[1] and @LightningTipB0t are others.

I know what counts as lot of LN activity, trust me, this is *insane activity*.

I've just added this to

@LightningTipB0t

(non-profit) and you can try it yourself. It takes a minute to set up. Use whichever service you like but if you use one with NIP57 zap support, you'll drive adoption.

Here is a short how to: #[3]

Don't sleep on this.

I received more Lightning tips on nostr in a day than in my entire time on Twitter. You can too.
