Malicious devs like this will probably start to show up in the Nostr ecosystem as well at some point

I had the same thought. Crazy

How do projects protect against this?

Lots of eyes on the code

open source risks which teams must manage. Bitcore Core should be very careful from any state actors.

All the more reason it’s important to be able to run your own node and not rush upgrades both to your own node, as well as to bitcoin itself. Very wary of anyone pushing for changes with urgency.

snaps are manual or I pull and compile on my nodes

Lol yeah its an isusse. Especially with Increasingly remote workforces. I don't want to say it's super easy, but if you're a state actor, like a DPRK, then it's fairly easy to get fake documents and pretend like you're somebody else to get hired at a company and then steal their shit or a crypto project, I guess, in this case.
