Oh, I ended up figuring it out! It was a page permissions problem.

what kind of page permissions problem? would like to be aware of it in case it happens to more people..
I thought i'd be able to just install the Nos2x extension, enter in my private key and start signing posts. But, I had to click on the extension and go to "this can read and change site data" and select the appropriate radio button.
