Funny, cuz after doing the masterlock enough times I decided to give the front door a try. Wasn't long before I saw a neighbor and started pretending like I was just fiddling with the door lol.
The fact that someone with $25 bucks of gear and 5 minutes of YouTube can open a popular padlock in under a minute should concern people more. How is lock tech so crap?!
FYI, it is possible to break a lock by picking it. Generally ill advised to pick a lock you need even if you own it.
Funny you mention as I had that concern and didn't return to practicing on it. I just had to see if I could do it easily, and what it felt like compared to padlock, but was unsuccessful after about 2 minutes. Door kinda sticks too, which probably makes it an extra bad one to mess with
How easy to pick definitely depends on what lock you have. Most modern kwikset are actually very difficult to pick and require a different technique than a typical master lock.
Lpubelts has rankings for common locks so that you can buy progressively instead of guessing in the dark how hard a lock will be. Personally I think a master 141 then a master 150 is a great progression with dirt cheap locks.
The 141 is a little more precisely built than your no 3 so you can feel better going pin by pin. The 150 has really obvious security pins that are easy to feel to get started on security pin techniques.
