The simple truth is that most people don’t/can’t think critically. They have no interest in being wrong about anything. Dissonance is an unfamiliar and scary state for them that they try to avoid at all costs.
We are evolutionarily predisposed not to think for ourselves.
And there is an argument to be made that ignorance truly may be better.
That said, I too am immensely grateful on a daily basis for being #childfree.
I can’t imagine the mental gymnastics over the course of a lifetime that would be needed to not feel constant guilt over bringing something that you are genetically programmed to love like no other, into this cesspool of existence. Sure, there is some good, but there is also a lot of bad that you are powerless to protect them from. Uvalde anyone?
Even if you are born into the global elite, there is nothing special about any of it. Only suffering and pleasure that never seems to last long enough.
Despite our lofty ambitions for and opinions of ourselves, humans will never be more than a mere blip on the cosmic scale. Just an ever anxious animal who has reproduced beyond what our host planet can sustain.
My personal mission and way through the muck and the mire, is to simply try to make the most of it. When the time comes for my body to fail, as it inevitably will, I will welcome a return to non existence, as much as I welcome a pretty sunrise or a warm cup of tea on a cold day.
