For those who have been following my progress on this: I have finally switched my last few computers over to using https://thorium.rocks browser.

It’s not a no-Google browser, but it is a “less-Google” browser, with several privacy settings improved by default, security patches applied, and performance optimizations built in, including some for acceleration on Linux.

I suggest giving it a try if you live in Chromium land, and supporting the dev. It’s a very small contributor base, but updates come fast, so they’re working hard.

Would you say it's better than Brave? I dislike Brave for Shitcoining, but appreciate the less Google trackers.

Definitely look into the privacy patches he applies to the builds. It still enables Google sync (optional), etc, but I think the cross site cookies, and things like FLOC are removed.

Performance wise, I think thorium thrashes any other browser I’ve used, including brave.

I also use a number of extensions and they all worked a-ok.

Not a Chromium one, but Librewolf is quit decent, to say the least.

They have a fork too.

Wow! To be honest, I love these names. Haha

I've been using it for about a week now and I like it a lot. Very fast.

It really is. 🤯

Already installed and using now the sse3 special version

How has that been running for you?

so far, sooo good 🤙⚡

Serious question: why this rather than Brave?

I didn’t jive with brave. The crypto and ad stuff was offputting but not a deal breaker. It also felt slow. I guess it was mostly subjective.

Tbh, this is a crap time to be multi platform, especially on Nostr.

Want bookmark sync across iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux? Sure, use chrome or brave.

Use chrome or brave? Sorry, no extension support on iOS. You’ll have to use safari.

Firefox? Nothing works on Firefox, and Firefox is just a fancy way of saying “Google funded PAC that happens to make a browser.”

What about using native browsers on each platform and syncing bookmarks? Too bad - none of them support Apple at the very least.

Proper extension sync? Chrome only. Good luck on iOS.

Tbh it’s a frustrating time to deal with web tech.

Works w/ chrome and firefox and mobile.

On IOS the Orion browser supports Chrome extensions.

What is a solution, if everyone worked toward the best solution?

There are lots of things that are websites…

That should not be websites.

Ignore me. I’m old.
