People can curb most of the spying by getting off of centralized social media and using a hardened smartphone, such as a Pixel that runs Graphene OS and sandboxed Google Services, or no Google at all. That would be a good start.

I've been using a Pixel 7 w/GrapheneOS for almost 2 years now. I have to admit I'm a little intrigued with the UP Phone but the thing that doesn't sit well with me is the fact it's just another controlled phone by a few who "could" be compromised in the future even if the guys are well meaning.

But the fact that they are discussing this and warning people is overall a good thing...

I'm using Pixel 7 with Graphene OS as well. It's been a great experience, overall. I can't imagine being locked into an iPhone after having this much freedom and control over my device. I've heard about the UP Phone as well, but I believe I'm better off with the de-Googled Pixel. 🙂

Also, I've been a GB listener for many years now, and one of the bones I've picked with him is that he's an iTard who doesn't have a clue about smartphones, yet tries to come off like a privacy expert while packing an iPhone!
