When I was 16, I moved out on my own and got a part time job as medical receptionist while going to school full time

I was paid 10$/hr

A pack of tampons back then was 12$+ taxes

I delivered newspapers early in the morning. Other than not liking to wake up early, cold winters and that one time someone lit my delivery (bicycle) bag on fire, it paid reasonably well for a 14(?) year old. I staid lazy ever since :-)
