Not like breaking news, but:

Utxo set now up to 180 million, and I think more than 12GB. Was 160 million about a month ago.

At what point do small nodes just keel over I wonder.

721 GB consumed by Core on my node.

Right but at least that can be pruned, fine for a lot of basic use cases. Fast access to utxo set is non-negotiable for all nodes.

txindex nad other indexing can add another 30 to 50Gb more

For me, electrs is another 47 GB.

yeah good point also - those running electrs or electrum for thin wallet use.

Was just about to buy a beelink the other day, but none of them have a 2TB ssd. Start9’s device might just be the way right now…. Until a 3TB is needed 😬

Got one 2 years ago. Refunded when I say the quality.

So you got the old version

good point - pruned nodes can still certain user functions.

wallet functions n broadcast

They are just flushed to disk. 1 TB is already too small for a full node, so it'll have to fill up a 2 TB drive.

The definition of small is ever changing.

I'm proud to have been part of the small block resistance back in the day. Without it running a personal node would have been a distant dream - but yes, it's time to add more storage.

On the positive side - time is also a good thing; CPUs are now more efficient, storage getting cheaper. What once didn't fit on a desk can be carried in your pocket. The future is bright.

Yeah, it's pretty bad...

what do you mean by "smaller nodes" ? I think a reasonable spec in memory for a small node is 2TB.
