I'm just going to add a compass to my kit. Something fairly basic to take bearings with. I don't know that I'd need anything fancy like a inReach or anything. They're neat but I don't know if the cost is worth it for short hikes.

I have an inReach I use to get lost in Swiss backcountry. My Alpinist brother also has one when he goes snowshoeing for hours to go ice climbing. It’s a “nice to have” for emergencies.

My iPhone has the satellite distress built in too so I've got that to fall back on.
