I’ve been on here a few days so thought I would do an official intro post. We are a family of four living in north central Illinois. We have two girls, which is what the homestead is named for. But don’t worry, we laugh at all the jokes!

We have a 1/2 acre lot on the edge of a small town in farm country where we have egg laying chickens and meat rabbits. We have two big gardens and also do meat birds once a year or so.

Every winter we get a hog from a farmer friend and we butcher it ourselves which has been an amazing learning experience. We do all this with the kids who have been homeschooled since the beginning. We trade with one of our neighbors and are able to use his property for lots of foraging and hunting.

My husband Nate and I host a podcast that is currently bi weekly called Two Chicks Homestead Podcast. We cover lots of real life topics and don’t take ourselves too seriously.

Currently we sell comfrey salve and have homemade rabbit foot keychains when they are available.
