I have similar bottles in stainless steel
I only use them for distilled water and after about a year of use have been spared any weird smells

I sometimes leave them lying around with water for days, and never any smell either. It discolours, but that's it. I try to carry one with me everywhere.
To think I used to buy only bottled water just a few years ago. 🤮
I think my wife may have put it in the dishwasher at some point. Something broke. I’m anti YETI now.
To be fair I'm pretty sure they're hand wash only.
I will sternly speak with my wife later about this.
Just looked it up, they should be fine in the dishwasher actually.
