You are both people I deeply respect, so I’ll add some input from an outside perspective.

I don’t give a shit about zaps.

That doesn’t mean I don’t like them, don’t want them, or want them gone. I’m just saying they don’t matter. I’m here for the people, the anonymity, and to contribute to the very difficult job of making social media work without centralized censorship.

Zaps (and bitcoin for that matter) are *just a tool* to accomplish my end. I use them to say thank you, patronize artists and devs, and occasionally drop a 💣 on someone for shock value.

My outflow exceeds my inflow, and I’m fine with that. I honestly think that Nostr attracts people who are more emotionally stable and confident, and thusly more able to handle moderating their own experience. People who need safe spaces are not the most resilient people in my experience. This is part of what I got into in my recent article.

to;dr my behavior would change not one iota if zaps fell off the face of the earth tomorrow. I think the answer is something deeper and more sociological.
