Would it be worth focusing on your start to squeeze an extra second or so off your time. I find I lose most time there when on the Concept2.

Right. Mentally that would make sense, as you do not want to exhaust yourself midway. You want to make sure you have enough energy at the end so you pace yourself. At the end you can then go flat out and use all the reserves up, which is why, I guess, you often get a quicker time then.
