if the post hits the 40k zaps goal, and i write this article, i'll probably get far less than $20 per hour. it's more likely to take me half a workday - 4 hours. ordinary wages are at $15-20/hr in many countries. freelancer/contractor wages are higher due to the lack of income security.

it's not unreasonable to pay about the same rate for a writer or video editor as you do for a plumber or carpenter. it's going to be a bit steep. but they're compensating for taxation, fees, lulls in jobs coming in, etc. there is zero job security if you're freelancing, working as an independent contractor, or as a CEO.

your employer is only providing you with an illusion of income security so you don't have to worry about it. "everyone else" DOES have to worry though. employees are a bit sheltered like that.
