PSA: You’re not an environmentalist if you drive a Tesla, but you ARE driving a mental egotist.

Like, I’m not even mad at him.
Don’t let Elon’s ego and bluster convince you that his companies’ successes are down to anything but the very hard work of many very talented people. Teslas are a great vehicle not because of Elon’s ego but because of the people who worked hard to make this company happen: https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cofounder-martin-eberhard-interview-history-elon-musk-ev-market-2023-2
I don’t discount their work, and I think electric vehicles are fine. I’d love to get one once there are better options and I have the budget. But the environmental costs of mining the materials, and the reliance on fossil fuels to produce the electricity (even in renewable infrastructure) to power the vehicles are being overlooked and greenwashed. A few million EVs on the road isn’t going to stop the glaciers from melting.
Electrics loop out a lot of dependence on the state. But it is true there are many state subsidies propping up both sides (electric and petroleum). I choose electric because I like the idea mining my own fuel from the sun. Some day they’ll figure out how to tax sunlight too though.
Exactly, so might as well enjoy the experience of driving them, as they are super fun!
Also, it’s pretty cool how the United States government told everyone they should buy an electric vehicle and then suddenly realized, “Oh shit, these things are expensive!” and took away most of the tax credits that would have helped people buy one. 😆
Haha, grab one whilst possible⚡⚡⚡. They are removing the rebates and incentives in the UK as well!
I don’t really need one now. I live in a city where cars are more of a burden than a benefit. My wife drives our 15+ year-old Toyota to her job in the suburbs, probably 25 miles round trip each day. It’s paid off and almost never needs maintenance.
Electrics are fun to drive and when shit hits the fan, I won’t need a refinery to get places. Electrics are a path to personal sovereignty in a sideways world.
Lots of lithium alternatives in the works, but you should not cry over lithium mines regardless; as Li+ leaks into the water supply, we’ll al be happier people.
If you have an electric car would you be ok to try an app we made? It ensures it is possible to quickly rank and compare chargers, somewhat like TripAdvisor. We are early on looking for feedback. electro-app.com.
Oh yeah in that case, doesn't make much sense. I do have a 45 minute commute to work often with heavy traffic and EVs are quite relaxing to drive in those conditions, plus free charging at work helps ;)
