I'm a Jack-of-all-trades for a reason. It insulates one to some degree against this exact problem.
I know several people who have done the same thing for ten years. In those ten years I've done:
1. Graphic designer/layout artist for a newspaper
2. Website designer at that same newspaper
3. Graphic designer at a wristband Factory
4. Loader operator at a farm supply depot
5. Forklift operator at the same place
6. Chemical warehouse manager at the same place
7. Airbnb host
8. House flipper
9. Videographer/video editor
10. Photographer
11. Property manager (for other people)
12. Irrigation service tech
13. General contractor
14. Roof truss builder
15. Haul truck driver
I might have missed a few. I'm not saying this is a superior way of being but it certainly insulates you against the problems this guy is having. I also acknowledge that my skill level at any one of these tasks is probably lesser than his skill in this one strata but living this way also means that one gets good at getting good at things quickly.
That being said I do feel very bad for these people for struggling like this.

I got a six-figure offer from Cisco to leave my current position a couple weeks back but I declined since I’d have to give up working from home.
