#[2] You wrote about zaps in your article but you haven’t enabled it for your profile. What’s holding you back?
Thank you for asking! I committed to not investing in any assets I cover, beyond what it takes to understand the technology: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20140820232008-27631733-why-reporters-who-cover-bitcoin-shouldn-t-own-it?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&utm_campaign=share_via I considered activating, but was comfortable receiving zaps from readers. In the future, I expect to expand beyond covering crypto and hope I can relax my policy then
Wow, you wrote that in 2014 and in the past decade of covering bitcoin, you’ve stayed completely out of it. I’m curious though, couldn’t the same argument be made about financial journalists who accept fiat as payment? Is it posible that journalists who write about central bank-issued currencies or equities hold biases toward the vehicles they choose to denominate their net worth in? If a writer covering the stock market has an IRA or 401(k), they are holding assets with an expectation of future appreciation.
Maybe it’s time to consider revising your thesis, or at minimum, turn on the breakthrough feature of #nostr that replaces worthless likes with something of real value. It won’t make anyone rich, but it may provide a better perspective on why so many here see the native currency of then internet as simply a better form of money.
Logic
It’s a very good point. For me, the difference was that where I live people don’t invest in dolllars, and I don’t write about people that do invest in dollars. Now that people are actually SPENDING bitcoin to buy things my thoughts are evolving. The success of things like NostrMarket are a crucial part of that process
Great article, sir. Followed. Wen can we zap you?
Thank you! It’s tough because I made a promise to my audience in 2015 not to invest in crypto beyond what it takes to understand the tech: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20140820232008-27631733-why-reporters-who-cover-bitcoin-shouldn-t-own-it?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&utm_campaign=share_via As my beat expands beyond crypto, I hope that changes! Thanks so much for reading!!!
