If Israel had no guarantee of US military support (made possible by the money printer), I wonder if they maybe would have tried harder to just be cool and friendly to their neighbours

No they think to be protected by their god to the point that they are ready to get their population slaughtered and still think they are winning. The entire region there is full of paranoids on one side and on the other.
