Hi mechanic I'm learning. Is lightning the future for peer to peer? Or will new innovations happen on top layer 1 we don't know exists yet?

Ideally trustless sidechains via some fancy ZKP tech. Liquid without the federation with Lightning to move between difference chains.

It's a far off dream but it's scaling without having to take gambles with the base layer.

Thank you for your responding.

In other words I interpret that as down the line it's not out of the realms of possibilities we have some on the base layer on a side chain that is better than lightning.

It doesn't replace Lightning, its a different set of tradeoffs.
