In app, yes. With Brave it is perfactly usable. The only thing I kind of miss are reply notifications, but since I don't debate there often, it's not a big deal. And I don't have to sponsor Alphabet...

Does it allow for media in background on mobile?

Also yes, that was my previous setup on desktop until work forced to use a chromium based browser.
