I just learned that Peter Brotzmann died recently, which is a damn shame. "Machine Gun" is a monster of an album which strips free jazz of a lot of it's spiritual posturing to revel in sheer aggression and the closing 30 seconds, where the band suddenly lurches into a ragged but distinct theme, is one of the coolest moments in jazz.
