Here's a story that illustrates this:

My sister is very woke. A couple years ago, she and I were talking, and she said, "I don't really like cryptocurrencies. I mean, some of them look interesting, and I'm really intrigued by the idea of NFTs, but you know which one I absolutely 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦?"

Me: "What?" (hoping she was going say "dogecoin" or something)

Her: "Bitcoin. It's destroying the planet, it's taking electricity from people who need it, causing rolling blackouts in California. And people are getting 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘥 to ruin everyone else's lives that way!"

Me: "I can understand why you think that, but it's not true. It's actually the opposite of the truth. Bitcoin is actually helping the environment, and bringing greater access to electricity for millions around the world."

Her: (looking very incredulous) "Really? How?"

Me: "Well, energy costs money, and miners want to cut costs wherever they can, so they can get the most bitcoin for their energy. This incentivizes them to--"

Her: "Never mind. You clearly seem to know all about it, so forget I asked." She then rapidly changed the subject.

Every time she has visited my house since then, she has seen me wearing a Bitcoin shirt (I have lots of them), my daughter's Little Hodler plushy, and the Bitcoin sticker on the back of my laptop, and she has deliberately talked about something else every time. So she avoids us when she can.
