I would have no issue using this language, but I find appealing to ideological causes beyond those connected to the project itself (such as software freedom for free software, freedom of speech for something that has that goal or anything of the sort) not good.
It creates useless disagreements and, because it's a package deal, makes it so I can't support the project without supporting something unrelated too.
It's better, IMO, when authors promote individual ideas on their personal blog or social media account, or trough non-programming organizations with that goal.
