WHAT IS A SACRAGUE?

Sarcophagus; It is known as sarcophagus in ancient Greek.

Sarcophagus is the name given to special coffins (coffins) made of baked clay, stone, wood or marble in which the dead were placed in ancient times.

It is usually patterned. The body of the sarcophagus is decorated with relief figures belonging to the dead.

There are sarcophagi reflecting various characteristics of certain periods in Anatolia.

Hellenistic sarcophagi are sarcophagi with a triangular roof and lid called the Hareon type.

In the Roman period, two types of sarcophagi were more common, the Pamphylia and Sidemara types.

The lid of the Sidemara type sarcophagi is in the shape of a bed. On it, there is a relief of the deceased, or his/her spouse if any, and on the body, scenes belonging to the deceased, god figures, temple pictures, column and medallion reliefs.
