I actually agree that rewriting an app is a bad idea, and the app getting into that condition because you don’t know how to reactor is a problem that must be fixed immediately. However, replacing an app with something much better in order to compete is another matter entirely, and it’s something you’ll have to do continuously in order to keep up. More to the point, the easiest/quickest way to build a new app, which is what your replacement effectively is, is from scratch. Salvage what you can out of the old system, but the new system is just that–a new system. Don’t rewrite; replace.
