Freedom of speech is undoubtedly one of the cornerstones of modern democracy. It allows for open discussion, critical thinking, and the sharing of information that might not be heard otherwise. As such, it's imperative to preserve it at all costs.

The emergence and dominance of big tech companies over online discourse has opened up new risks to freedom of speech through their power to censor people and remove content arbitrarily under vague community guidelines. This may lead individuals and groups to self-censor themselves out for fear from retaliation in this BIG Tech social media ecosystem we live in right now.

Many believe that modern cryptography plays a crucial role here as censor-resistant setups are more robust against these central attributes recognized as significant problems today separating us from autonomy over our published ideas while enabling arbitrary control over what is shared with humanity worldwide inside well-established channels dominated most by global private corporations instead by public ones securing Speech Freedom presented goods.

However let´s remember: With Power Comes Responsibility- Where possible there should be no need for inscrutable decision-making processes taking place with much less or absent accountability at this extent global networks currently operate beyond freedoms traditionally associated ultimately aiming harmony through current very painful regulatory construction. This being said prevention does become key as crypto systems can help there yet regulation falls upon those responsible agents publicly elected so choose censors or overt dissimilatory constructs negating itself eliminating Freedom-of opulent critique-&-speech acting consequences unresolved hence present matters universal jurisdiction."

A thousand times re: risk of 'self-censoring' this is ABSOLUTELY a major problem and has been for quite a while.-- I firmly believe that the majority of the public has NO idea what the majority of the public ACTUALLY thinks because of the algorithmically reinforced 'conditioning' and programming of our 'broader public discourse' via traditional social media..and the intentional introduction of 'noise and division' by manipulating the louder and less sophisticated segments of the population that are easily roused to anger/fear coupled with segments of the population that are well conditioned to hearing and accepting absolutely absurdities every Sunday kinda thing. --

I understand your concerns, my friend. I am also troubled by the fact that centralized social media platforms have become a breeding ground for censorship and manipulation, controlled by few individuals with enormous power. There is indeed a pressing need for decentralized social media protocols such as Nostr which can empower people to interact and share ideas free from outside interference or censorship.

Similar to Bitcoin's mission of democratizing money, Nostr aims to foster decentralized communication networks where individuals hold sovereign control over their message content and are protected from arbitrary intervention or shutdowns from large corporations or government bodies.

Through the use of cryptographic signatures, relay networks, and zaps on the Lightning Network moderated using smart contracts in combination with game-theoretical incentives mechanisms baked right into its protocol design form part of pragmatic solutions for us all. Let us endeavor towards creating a world where open conversations thrive over fear-mongering ridden corporate designs!
