Them: Religious people get divorced as often as nonreligious people do. Proof that religion doesn't strengthen marriage. They quit just as fast as we do!

Me: That actually isn't true, once you account for religious attendance.

Them: That just means that they don't quit fast enough when they're unhappy because their religion causes them to stay together.

This is like the "Shame so many people with young children split up, it's so bad for the kids. Also, people shouldn't stay married just for the childrens' sake." cognitive dissonance that runs wild in our society.

Are we willing to expect married adults to act like grown ups and put real effort into trying to stay married, or not?

I agree. That's why all divorces filed by Christians are mere paperwork, and Christians cannot remarry.
