You are 100 % correct and I really think this should be acknowledged more often. Seeking something fleeting ends invariably in pain and amounts to losing great opportunities to find something deeply fulfilling. If you can, start asap working on what is meaningful and devote your life to it.

I think it's because our life spans have increased, so we somehow think everything should be more spread-out.

It is, but mostly we spend more time in the after-phase.
