I’m still kind of tripping out that the UN is actually leaving the Congo. The sexual assaults at the hands of the UN “peacekeepers” there have been too many to count.
Discussion
Oh I probably never mentioned it before here but I really dislike the UN.
I believe there are some folks who collaborate with the UN in various ways that have good intentions but also I don’t like the UN.
Welcome to the club, I am also not a fan of theirs, the WHO, the WEF - anything that tells us what to do etc. not a fan of
Add in Haiti with their child trafficking and child abuse at the hands of their foot soldiers too 🤢
1. Give some people the power of life and death over others.
2. Make it so the powerless are from a different culture, so that it is harder for them to predict, negotiate and build social relationships with the powerful (that might then socially restrain the powerful).
3. Make sure the powerful are bored, frustrated, pissed off, know their time in country is limited, and know accountability will be rare and minimal.
4. Perform shocked Picachu face when abuse happens.
5. Repeat as needed
6. ????
7. Profit!!!
Peacekeepers = minerals keepers too.
Hierarchy be like: Mineral Keepers -> Politicians & UN -> Peacekeepers -> Local Population
Peacekeepers might take relationships with the locals more seriously if they were the ones keeping the minerals they're "securing" along with the population.
Instead they get fobbed off with lousy pay, worse food, and near-total impunity for whatever they might want to inflict on locals.
We call this "Democracy". Sometimes "Stability" or "Women's Rights".
