I'd been reading a book about feudal Japan (Shogun, highly recommend) and for whatever reason I was thinking about the early post-war years when the US seemed to be fairly cohesive and well organized (at least comparatively).
I didn't have any conviction in that statement, it was just a curious musing.
I think it’s more of a historic or even religious footprint that can explain some present behaviours.
